Lim - Equality, Integration, Diversity; is a non-governmental organisation that promotes immigrant’s participation, trust and belonging to Norwegian society.

The organisation wishes to act as a speaker of liberal and secular values and counteract segregation of society on ethnic or religious grounds. LIM’S overall goal is a peaceful and inclusive society, where the individual’s universal right to freedom and dignity is safeguarded.

LIM was established in 2009 as an informal network consisting mainly of secular Muslims, and we established ourselves as an organisation in January 2010. The background for the establishment of LIM is the need to initiate a new voice in the integration debate. We felt that there was a need for secular forces with a Muslim background to stronger on the ground, among others to act as a counterweight to the more religious-conservative forces that have been very active in the community debate. In this way, we also wanted to highlight the diversity found in immigrant environments – also in terms of values and approaches to questions of integration. In addition, we have seen a need for a liberal multi-ethnic agency that also focuses on the challenges and critical conditions in minority environments, not only one that focuses on the authorities and larger society’s responsibility regarding integration.

We believe that by openly challenging values within minority communities, in addition to promoting change in a positive direction, will also help to counter xenophobia and hate of Muslims.

We wish to emphasize that LIM does not speak on behalf of Norwegian Muslims. NONE can speak on behalf of such a composed group as Muslims in Norway, in the same way as no-one can speak on behalf of Christians in Norway.

We believe it is important that both government and civil society, including immigrant communities, contribute in the fight against ideologies, traditions or attitudes that violate democratic principles and human rights. Furthermore, we wish to prevent trends in the development of parallel societies and political mobilization on ethnic or religious grounds. Successful integration requires that people of different ethnic background meet and interact in common areas.

LIM’s vision is that Norway should be a peaceful community consisting of free individuals. In our value campaign, we wish to promote values that can act as “LIM” (Norwegian word for “glue”) in society.

LIM’s work is mainly based on voluntary efforts. From 2012, LIM has gained status as one of several national resource environments in the integration field and receives financial support from the state budget. Operating support for 2020 is NOK 2,000,000.

Our office is based at The Brick in Løvenskioldsgate 26, 0260, in Oslo.

LIM’s board consist of 8 people. In addition, LIM has a council that currently consists of 12 people. A member of the Council will be invited by the Board, but it is possible to subscribe for support membership. We also have an active Facebook group that we recommend you follow and ‘like’.
